Silencing The Noise

A mound of work emails, a never-ending to-do list, phone calls from friends and family vying for your attention, a sick child, a project deadline.  Does this sound familiar?  Our society glorifies a lifestyle of busyness.  It’s essentially a badge of honor to juggle multiple things and stay connected.  For many, this is an unwelcomed way of life, so how can we can find the balance between others and self?

Silence the noise.

It takes a courageous woman to step away from the world to focus on herself. So here are a few ways to say “no” to the world for 15mins:

Mindful Meditation

Studies show that meditation benefits the body in a number of ways.  It improves brain function by increasing grey matter which basically means that your brain has the chance to rest and process the information it perceived during the day.  This time is crucial as it positively affects the ability to have a clearer and more alert mind the following day.  Not only do you perform better when managing your large number of tasks, you’re also decreasing your risk of increased stress levels and the feeling of anxiety. 

Unplugging

We get it. Social media is a big deal.  Blog posts have to be posted (this one included) and reader comments need to be responded to.  Instagram followers need new content, and so the story goes.  But this constant connection actually does more harm than good.  Not only does it increase stress levels due to over stimulation, it has the potential to interfere with your productivity levels.  Scrolling, screenshotting, and Instagramming can eat up to 2 hours of your day. That’s a high price to pay for a busy woman like you.

Yoga or Stretching

Yoga has been around for centuries and will continue to serve as the staple form of exercise for those wanting to give their bodies a great workout while quieting the mind at the same time. This mind-body connection forces you to quiet the chaos and put first things first. Not interested in a full on yoga session? Stretch.  The power of a good 5 min stretch in the bed, shower, or while you're waiting for your coffee to brew is the perfect time to get your blood flowing and loosen up stiff muscles. 

Self-Care

This may be obvious to some but we often find ourselves doing for others so much that it is easy to forget about tending to ourselves first.  Self-care is whatever makes you feel most like yourself and or increases your self-esteem. This could mean treating yourself to a transformative hairstyle, or cut, you’ve been putting off or opting to stay in and Netflix binging, painting your nails, or *ahem* sitting in bed planning for the week ahead 😆.  Self-care means different things to different people, but it’s the perfect opportunity to hear your voice again and rest yourself.

I encourage you to be OK taking a few minutes to silence the noise so you can effortlessly tackle your never-ending tasks.
